Towards 1510, Lucas's figures assume elongated and better-proportioned forms that reflect his experiments with contraposto --the graceful disposition of the parts of the body so that they turn along oblique axes arranged around a central vertical axis and a self-conciousness as to the distribution of weight throughout the figure. In addition, the various textures --tightly woven cloth, cropped fur, polished stones and silks, are skillfully and convincingly rendered.
