I remember this piece from the mid-eighties when it was installed in the Walker Art Sculpture Garden. My friends and I would crawl all over it - including hanging from the metal beams that are suspended underneath the tripod. From these beams hangs the wooden swing which is the size of a small raft. Originally, this swing was not chained to the ground, and the whole sculpture was free to move farther and higher. Later, the Walker installed the chains preventing the sculpture from reaching it's full experiential potential. I have always wondered if this compromised di Suvero's intention. It certainly compromises the viewer's experience of it!
