Dorit Cypis, My Father's Nudes (1989)

Walker Art Center

Institution Walker Art Center
Besides considering the differences between our public and private encounters with female nudity, this installation refers to Cypis' continuing dialogue with her father on the nature of her work. Cypis asked the following question regarding her father's snapshots of 18th- and 19th-century nudes at the Louvre: "Was he weighing history on his side to restate his power over me, or was he acknowledging my struggle?"
