This artwork is on view in the Walker exhibition The Living Years: Art after 1989. The text below is the artwork's label written for that exhibition.

In the early 1990s, Jim Hodges began sketching imaginary flowers on cheap paper napkins he regularly took home from his neighborhood deli in Brooklyn. Each drawing is a daydream—the product of a mind routinely lost in thought. The last entry of this “diary” is dated January 6, 1996—the day that Felix Gonzalez-Torres, a fellow artist and dear friend, succumbed to AIDS. Gonzalez-Torres’ work Untitled—a floor-bound stack of printed images of the sea—is also on view in this gallery.
