This Arts Connected Set is meant to be used by teachers and high school students who will be visiting the Graphic Design:  Now In Production exhibit at the Walker Art Center.  It can be used to prep visitors for the tour theme, "Graphic Design and The Entertainment Industry".

The tour is designed for students in grades 9-12. It connects to benchmarks outlined in the Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts. (Media Arts codes 9.1.1.2.1, 9.1.3.2.1 and 9.4.1.2.1., which pertain to analyzing, synthesizing and expressing a view about the elements, meanings and functions of media arts and interpreting media artworks using self-selected criteria.)

This Arts Connected Set contains a sampler of works from the exhibition as well as from outside resources.  It can be considered a study tool for and sneak preview of the kind of graphic design students will see during their visit to the Walker.

It also includes questions adapted from a technique called Visual Thinking Strategies, which encourages critical thinking.

Teacher notes:  there are YouTube video links in the following presentation.  If your school blocks access to YouTube, the students could watch them from home (or you could bypass or delete those slides.)  There is also a suggested post-tour activity on the final slide.
