This lesson is suitable for students in grades 9–12. 


This substitute lesson plan includes exciting lesson exploring the power of color in abstract paintings.


The attached lesson plan is designed to correlate with Minnesota state standards for visual arts. The lesson plan also highlights the lesson's relationship to life, lists the objectives and the required resources. Explanation of the procedures explains the course of the lesson.


"Abstract in Color" image set is designed to put any art teacher's substitute and students at ease. A brief introduction explains the philosophy of Abstract Expressionism style. ArtsConnectEd activity allows students to explore the power of color and its theory.


The image presentation is guided by discussion questions throughout the presentation.


The last slide presents a brief youtube video of wet-on-wet painting technique that students will use when creating their own paintings.
