Tell Him of My Pain
Art on Call

In this installation Georgina Starr has constructed a virtual museum of her own memories, collected and documented while she was living temporarily in The Hague, Netherlands. Starr loosely based her Nine Collections on the 17th-century painting by William Van Hecht, Appelles Painting Campapse, which hangs in the Mauritshuis Collection in The Hague and can be seen in a photograph on one of the walls of this installation. That canvas portrays the ordered chaos of a 17th-century picture gallery. Starr's work mimics this chaos, bringing together a series of ordinary objects reminiscent of her stay in The Hague ranging from photographs of her doll and alter ego "Junior" to documentation of her blind dinner dates. After collecting all of these objects in her boarding room, Starr assembled them for a photograph that became the basis for this installation.
Using the multimedia technology of CD-ROM, Starr divided these objects into a series of nine collections, each identified with a particular emotion or state of being, including loneliness, happiness, sorrow, or fantasy. At once autobiographical and fictional, these memories and images are referenced and cross-referenced in a latticework of associations that inspire a whimsical sense of wonder.
