Aliyah Plaque: Gallery Label - Current
Members of the synagogue are given the honor of an "aliyah", during which they come to the pulpit to recite blessings over the day's reading from the Torah. Another meaning for aliyah is the immigration of a Jew to Israel (generally referred to in English as "making aliyah"). This plaque commemorates the event for a Kurdish Jew in the 1920s.
