The elegant ladle and sieve were used to serve and to eliminate sediment from wine. They were reportedly found together in Arcarnania, a region in southwestern Greece, but were probably made in the northern region of Macedonia, where much ancient silver was produced. This sieve in the form of a grape leaf -- appropriate for straining wine -- is unique. Only one other sieve is known, of a different design.
