This is an unusually large and elaborate example of a family of vessels produced during the fourth and fifth centuries a.d. that were apparently designed for storing cosmetics. The piece was made by pinching a cylindrical tube of glass and folding it in the middle forming two vertical chambers. Thick trails of the same color glass were used to create the handle and applied surface ornament.
