Nazca pottery is known for its lively, colorful surfaces. Ceramic artists skillfully depicted themes from the world around them, providing a glimpse into their lives and what they considered worth recording. Subjects related to the sea appear frequently, as it was a rich source of food. It was also a place of human activity, including fishing, boating and swimming. The swimmers portrayed on this bowl float peacefully in a stylized ocean of gracefully curving lines.
