Scale models offer a good opportunity to introduce math concepts such as proportion and ratios. In the activity attached to this Set, students draw a household object in three sizes and turn the drawings into soft relief sculptures. The instructions suggest to produce scaled drawings by using different sizes of paper (small, medium, and large). Instead of using paper size to determine the drawings sizes, try using fixed ratios such as 1:1, 1/2:1, and 3:1. This will have students measuring and calculating dimensions.
