This exceptionally fine robe was used as the inner garment for women's roles in the Noh drama. The cut and general design concepts of the gown are based on court attire of the XVI and XVII Centuries. Nuihaku generally made use of impressed foil design, in this instance gold cloud motifs which represent morning mist rising from an autumn meadow.
