Present an Art Collector Set

To present an Art Collector Set:

  1. Locate the Art Collector Set you want to present.
    • To locate a published Art Collector Set, see Search Published Art Collector Sets.
    • To locate an Art Collector Set you created that is unpublished, log into ArtsConnectEd and click the ART COLLECTOR button at the top right of the screen.
  2. Click on the image or the title of the Art Collector Set you want to present.  The Set’s detail page opens.
  3. On the Set’s detail page, locate the ITEM ACTIONS box or the SET ACTIONS box in the upper right-hand corner of the page (see Figure 1a and 1b).  
  4. Click the Present link on either the ITEM ACTIONS or the SET ACTIONS box.  ArtsConnectEd loads the Set into Presentation mode and displays the first slide.
  5. To move to the next slide, do any of the following:
    • Click the NEXT button in the bottom right-hand corner of the slide.
    • Press the Space bar on the keyboard.
    • Press the right arrow or cursor key on your keyboard
    • Press the Page Down (Pg Dn) key on your keyboard
  6. To move to the previous slide, do any of the following:
    • in the set click the PREVIOUS button in the bottom right-hand corner of the slide
    • Press the left arrow or cursor key on your keyboard
    • Press the Page Up (Pg Up) key on your keyboard
  7. To move to a specific slide in the Set:
    • Click the Contents button at the bottom of the screen.  ArtsConnectEd shows all the slides in the Set in a filmstrip along the bottom of the presentation.
      Note: You may also press the C key on your keyboard to activate this feature.
    • Click on the Slide in the filmstrip that you want to display as the current slide.
  8. To make the text on a slide larger, press B on your keyboard.
  9. To make the text on a slide smaller, press S on your keyboard.
  10. The last slide of the presentation has two links.  Click the close the window link to end the presentation or click the start over link to display the presentation again from the first slide.

Note:  Clicking the MORE INFO button at the bottom of a presentation’s slide opens the Item Detail page for the item displayed on the slide.  To return to the presentation from the Item Detail page, close the Work of Art Detail Web browser tab by clicking its red X on its tab, or click the browser tab labeled ArtsConnectEd.

Present an Art Collector Set Offline

Many educators deliver content created online, offline or without an active Internet connection. Art Collector Sets can be presented offline using Adobe Reader or other PDF software.  This article will refer to Adobe Reader.  This free software comes installed with most browsers or can be downloaded at the Adobe Web Site.

You will need an Internet connection to create and save an Art Collector Set as a PDF. An Internet connection is not required to view a PDF file.

You must be an ArtsConnectEd registered user to create an Art Collector Set.  To become an ArtsConnectEd registered user, see Registration Help.

To create present an Art Collector Set offline:

  1. If you are not logged into ArtsConnectEd, log in now:
    • Click the SIGN IN button in the top left-hand corner of the Web page.
    • Enter the Username and Password you created when you registered.
    • Click the SIGN IN button again.
  2. Create your set.  See Create an Art Collector Set for more information on how to build your Set.
  3. Once you have created your Set, click the ART COLLECTOR button at the top of the screen.  ArtsConnectEd shows all your Sets.
  4. Open the Set you want to view offline by clicking on its representational image or its title.  The Set’s Detail page opens.
  5. Locate the SET ACTIONS box in the upper right-hand corner of the Edit Set Detail page (see Figure 1).
  6. Click the SAVE AS PDF link in the lower right-hand column of the SET ACTIONS box (see  Figure 1).
  7. A dialog box opens (see Figure 2).  Click the Save File radial button.  Click OK.
  8. The Save As dialog box opens. Continue to save the PDF as you would any other file. ArtsConnectEd will convert your Set to a PDF file and save it to the folder you selected.
    Note: The Slide Layout (Item only, Item with Annotation, or Annotation only) applies to the PDF document as well as the Presentation View.
  9. Open the PDF file that you just created and saved in steps 7 and 8, using Adobe Reader.
  10. In Adobe Reader, select Full Screen Mode from the View menu. You can also press and hold the control or command key and then L on your keyboard. Adobe Reader Full Screen Mode is similar to Art Collector in Presentation View or PowerPoint in Slide Show mode. The controls are also similar.
  11. In Adobe Reader control Full Screen Mode with the following keyboard commands:
    • To go to the next page/slide, press the Enter, Page Down, or Right Arrow key.
    • To go to the previous page/slide, press Shift+Enter, Page Up, or the Left Arrow key.
    • To leave Full Screen Mode in Adobe Reader press the Escape (Esc) key on your keyboard.

Share an Art Collector Set

Once you have created an Art Collector Set, you can share it with others in many ways.  You can:

Note:  You can only submit Art Collector Sets, and not Temporary Sets, for publication.  See The Difference Between Art Collector Sets and Temporary Sets for more information.  Submitting a Set for publication does not guarantee that it will be published on ArtsConnectEd. You can do all of these functions by using the SET ACTIONS box (see Figure 1) in the Set’s item detail page.

Print an Art Collector Set

To print an Art Collector Set:

  1. If the Set is an Art Collector Set, and not a Temporary Set, log into ArtsConnected:
    • Click the SIGN IN button in the top left-hand corner of the Web page.
    • Enter the Username and Password you created when you registered.
    • Click the SIGN IN button again.
  2. Click the ART COLLECTOR button at the top left of the screen.
  3. Click the title, or the image, of the Set you want to print.  The Set’s detail page opens.
  4. On the Set’s detail page, locate the SET ACTIONS box (see Figure 1).  The Set’s Action box is located to the right of the Representative image and below the Back to My Sets button.
  5. Click the link describing the action you want to perform with the selected Set:
  6. To print the Art Collector Set as a handout with images and lines for students to write notes, click the Handout View link.
  7. To print the Art Collector Set as it appears when you Present it, click the Printable View link.
  8. To print the Art Collector Set with Titles and Descriptions along with your text from the My Notes section of each slide, click the My Notes View link.
    Note: The text that you enter in Display Annotation on each slide may be displayed in Presentation mode. The text entered into My Notes can only be viewed on the Slide Editor page or in the My Notes View.
    Note: Additional pages may open in other tabs in your Web Browser, such as when you click Handout View.  You may need to click on these tabs to see the Handout View or the other printable views (for example, My Notes View).
  9. After you click Handout View, Printable View, or My Notes View:
    • Click the Web browser tab that displays the handouts or images you want to print.  This tab is labeled ArtsConnectEd.
    • For your Web browser’s File menu, select the Print… option (see Figure 2).  The Print dialogue opens.
    • Follow the instructions in the Print dialog to print the Set.
  10. After you have printed the Set, close the ArtsConnectEd tab by clicking the red X in its upper right-hand corner of the tab.  This will return you to the Set’s detail page.

Copy the URL of an Unsubmitted Art Collector Set

Once you have created an Art Collector Set, you can share it with others in many ways.  See Share an Art Collector Set for more information.

Each time you create an Art Collector Set it is automatically assigned a unique URL or Web address. You can find and share this URL with others in two ways.

The first method is to use the E-mail Set Action. See E-mail an Art Collector Set for more information.

The second method is to copy the URL from the Set Detail page.

To copy the URL of an Art Collector Set:

  1. If the Set is an Art Collector Set, and not a Temporary Set, log into ArtsConnected:
    • Click the SIGN IN button in the top left-hand corner of the Web page.
    • Enter the Username and Password you created when you registered.
    • Click the SIGN IN button again.
  2. Click the ART COLLECTOR button at the top left of the screen.
  3. Click the title, or the image, of the Set you want to share.  The Set’s detail page opens.
  4. On the Set’s detail page, locate the SET ACTIONS box (see Figure 1).  The Set’s Action box is located to the right of the Representative image and below the Back to My Sets button.
  5. Beneath the SET ACTIONS box you will see the date the Set was created followed by a hyperlink, Link to this Set (see Figure 2).
  6. To copy the URL you can either click the Link to this set hyperlink and then copy the URL from your Browser's Address or Location bar.
  7. Alternatively, you can right or command click on the link. Select from the resulting menu Copy Link Location or Copy Shortcut depending on which browser you are using.  This will place the URL on in your computer's memory. You can then paste the the URL into an e-mail or electronic document.

E-mail an Art Collector Set

You must be an ArtsConnectEd registered user to e-mail one of your Art Collector Sets.  If you are not an ArtsConnectEd user, you can e-mail a Temporary Set you have created.

Note: You can also e-mail any item in Art Finder (works of art, texts, audio/video, interactive resources, or events).

To insure that e-mail messages from ArtsConnectEd make it into your account,  put info@artsconnected.org on your list of trusted addresses. Refer to your email or antivirus software's manual for more information on how to do this.


To e-mail an Art Collector Set:

  1. If the Set is an Art Collector Set, and not a Temporary Set, log into ArtsConnected:
    • Click the SIGN IN button in the top left-hand corner of the Web page.
    • Enter the Username and Password you created when you registered.
    • Click the SIGN IN button again.
  2. Click the ART COLLECTOR button at the top left of the screen.
  3. Click the title, or the image, of the Set you want to share.  The Set’s detail page opens.
  4. On the Set’s detail page, locate the SET ACTIONS box (see Figure 1).  The Set’s Action box is located to the right of the Representative image and below the Back to My Sets button.
  5. Click the E-mail link in the SET ACTIONS box.  ArtsConnectEd opens the E-mail form (see Figure 2).
  6. Type in these fields:
    • From E-Mail: Your e-mail address.
    • From Name: Your name.
    • To E-Mail: The e-mail address to which you want the Set sent.
    • To Name: The name of the person to whom you want the Set sent.
    • Message: (optional) The text you want to appear in the body of the e-mail.
  7. Click the Send E-mail button at the bottom of the e-mail form to send the Set.

Submit an Art Collector Set for Publication

You must be an ArtsConnectEd registered user to submit your Art Collector Sets for publication.   To become an ArtsConnectEd registered user, see Registration Help.

Note:  Submitting a Set for publication does not guarantee that it will be published on ArtsConnectEd.   Museum staff review Art Collector Sets submitted for publication and do not publish those that are offensive, or unlawful.

To Submit an Art Collector Set:

  1. If you are not logged into ArtsConnectEd, log in now:
    • Click the SIGN IN button in the top left-hand corner of the Web page.
    • Enter the Username and Password you created when you registered.
    • Click the SIGN IN button again.
  2. Click the ART COLLECTOR button at the top left of the screen.
  3. Click the title, or the image, of the Set you want to submit for publication.  The Set’s detail page opens.
  4. Verify that the Set you want to submit for publication has text typed in the Description text area on the Set Detail page.  Sets without this description cannot be submitted for publication.
  5. When you submit a Set you are sharing it with everyone who uses ArtsConnectEd.
    Please consider the following before you choose to submit a Set:
    • Write a Description for your set that includes the main idea your set illustrates and how you would use the resource in the classroom
    • Use Spell Check and write clearly throughout
    • If you quote someone else’s words, name the source
    • For each slide, consider what you will include in the Annotation box. You may use museum label information to identify images, include existing texts or links, write your own questions/comments, or leave it blank to just show the image.
  6. On the Set’s detail page, find the SET ACTIONS box (see Figure 1).  The Set Action box is located to the right of the Representative image and below the Back to My Sets button.
  7. Click the Submit link in the SET ACTIONS box.  ArtsConnectEd opens the Submit this Set for Publication form (see Figure 2).
  8. On the Submit this Set for Publication form:
  9. Check the Submit this Set for review by ArtsConnectEd staff checkbox so that it is checked.
  10. Under the Grades heading, indicate which grade levels this Set would appeal to.
  11. Under the Instructional Method heading, indicate what instructional method(s) this Set uses.
  12. From the Set Type dropdown list, select the classification that best describes this Set.
  13. Click the Terms of Use link, read the terms of use, and click the I agree to the Terms of Use checkbox so that it is checked.
  14. Click the SAVE SET button.  You have now submitted a copy of this Set for publication.  Any changes you make to your current copy of the Set are not reflected in the submitted version of the Set.
  15. When your Set is approved (or denied) you will be notified through ArtsConnectEd's internal messaging system. When you have a message an envelope icon will appear at the top of the screen, next to your user name. Click the envelope to see your in box.
