Haunting Images, Haunting Sounds
As an engaging way to recognize Halloween, this Art Collector Set collages sound recordings with artworks that are eerie, haunting, or mysterious. Playing the embedded MP3 on each slide is like receiving "trick-or-treaters" on Halloween eve: You don't know what's in store until you open the door.
The pairings of image and sound are not intended as literal soundtracks, but rather as associative, subjective, and open-ended connections between art and sound. The listener's imagination is left to fill in the blanks as to what's happening, at what pace, in what setting, and involving what characters.
ABOUT THE ART: Learn more about the artworks by clicking the left "MORE INFO" button at the bottom of each slide. Use the zoom tool to examine each work of art in detail.
ABOUT THE AUDIO: The audio selections range from field recordings, to experimental ambient compositions, to traditional storytelling. The recordings were all found at Archive.org and vary in length from 16 seconds to 7 minutes 37 seconds. Cumulatively, the playing time is approximately 18 minutes. The final slide provides a track listing with links to more information.
