GiggleIT Visual Literacy Project
The GiggleIT Project's 2011 theme for creative international online literacy is,
"Through our window - the colours of our land".
Here is a selection of art works that present ideas for creating literary works and visual literacy works on the theme above.
This theme is based on the following aims:
Students explore their place in a diverse world through a personal cultural lens.
Students will explore the meaning of Visual Literacy.
Students will create a personal logo and a haiku poem on the theme:
"Through our window - the colours of our land".
Students will experiment and explore a variety of ICT.
Look through these artworks for ideas and think about:
1. Do any of these visual works remind you of anything in your world?
2. Do the colours make you feel inspired? How DO the colours affect you?
3. Is there one special artwork that you like or can use to create a colour scheme for your logo?
Let's go back to the voicethread to learn more about colour and feelings.

Attachments: Visual Literacy Integrated Unit Plan (pdf)
This Visual Literacy Integrated Unit is suitable for secondary and elementary schools that wish to integrate Art, English and ICT in one unit plan.
The theme is "Colours of my world" and is based on a constructivist creative project which is structured to develop creative thought and actions through personal knowledge of the student's world. Creativity in context allows the student to see their own local area with new eyes and so see themselves as a part of that local area.
As this is part of the International Association of School Librarianship GiggleIt Project, students can see their creative works published online:
http://www.iasl-online.org/sla/giggleIT/ourladyofdolours5.htm
The results of this project will also be published online.
Symbolism and Haiku Focus (pdf)
This presents ideas on how to structure lessons on symbolism and haiku form in poetry.
It accompanies the "Colours of My World" GiggleIT 2011 Project:
