installation at the Carlson School of Managemnet
University of Minnesota

What is a sphere? Does this shape mean anything?

Can you think of other things that are this shape-a 3-dimensional circle? From marbles to basketballs to the earth itself, spheres come in all sizes! A sphere has symbolic meaning for the Carlson School. This sphere is made up of connected cables and strips of glass. These connected pieces stand for the students and teachers of the business school working together with the business community in a partnership of teaching and learning. The sphere can also be seen as a globe, because business affects everyone in the world.

Ed Carpenter isn't the only artist who uses spheres! Click here to review a related artwork.
