Through the garden's gates

Can you find the "gates" to the garden? Look closely. Artist Martin Puryear wants us to enter the garden through Ampersand, two columns he created from granite quarried from Cold Spring, Minnesota. Puryear wants us to think about the balance of the garden. Which one looks upside-down to you? Click here to view a video or read the text of Martin Puryear talk about Ampersand (video requires Quicktime).

As we travel along the main north-south allée we see small bronze sculptures set among a row of linden trees. Artist Coojse van Bruggen used the shape of the linden seed pod to design the pond for the Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture. Can you see the shape?
