Where did they get their ideas?

The architects had studied the Modern movement in architecture (also called International Style). It was started by a group of European architects and artists in the 1920s. At that time, wars and joblessness had disrupted people's homes and lives in Europe. Their dream was to change housing and buildings so the world would be a better place to live. They were excited to use ideas they saw in "new" machines like cars and airplanes: all were sleek, efficient, comfortable, and pleasing to look at.

These artists developed and taught how to apply their ideas in a school named Bauhaus (BOW [as in "cow"] - house). The buildings included lots of space, easy access, and lots of windows for light.
