Ties to Minnesota
The site of the work, right outside the
Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota, is an
important part of the sculpture.
The University of Minnesota is a land-grant
university. This means that in the mid-1860s, the government donated land
to the university to promote the study of agriculture and farming. The
study of farming is still important to the university today. Agriculture
is an important part of Minnesota history.
Many Minnesota cities and communities were
formed around corn farms and the corn industry. These are some of the
reasons Bart wanted to make this work about agriculture.
