Outdoors and Indoors When Paul Manship made the two versions of Indian Hunter and His Dog, he knew they would be fine sculptures both indoors and outdoors. Manship was very good at imagining sculpture outdoors. He knew that he had to plan for changes in light and surroundings as the seasons changed, especially in Minnesota! The smaller version is just right for an indoor room. Outdoors, the larger version is life-size. It seems right at home with the geese in the pool. Compare the sizes of these two sculptures. Thirty years ago this sculpture was vandalized. The city of St. Paul decided to move the sculpture to a safer spot near the Como Park Conservatory. A fiberglass copy of the sculpture was made for the pool in Cochran Park. Many years later people wanted the original bronze sculpture back in the pool, so the two sculptures were switched. Today the fiberglass copy stands in Como Park. The original bronze sculpture still stands in Cochran Park on the corner of Western and Summit avenues in St. Paul. See the Como Park version. |
