Size:
How large will your room be? What activities do you want to do there?
With whom do you want to share the space?
Materials:
What kind of materials can you use? Wood, glass, plastic, metal, something
else? What will your walls be made of? Your flooring? Anything else?
Features:
What kinds of doors will you have? Traditional or modern? Will they
be folding or sliding; glass or wooden? What kinds of windows will you
have? Traditional or modern? Stained glass? Or stained glass with photographs
as seen in Minnesota
in 3/4 Time? To help you decide, think about how much natural
light you want.
How can you divide
the room so that it could have several smaller spaces within the bigger
space? What functions will the different spaces have? How will you decorate
the space? Will you use modern designs as in Idea House II? Do you like
the simplicity of the wooden house? Or do you like your room to reflect
another another culture as seen in the Wu
Family Reception Hall?
How will the room
be furnished? Traditional? Modern? From another culture? How will the
furnishings relate to what you want to do in the room? If you are drawing
a floor plan, first draw the outside shape of the room, using the Idea
House II floor plan as a guide. Indicate placement of windows, doors,
dividers, and furnishings for your room.
If you are doing
a sketch, simply draw a room with your designs for doors, windows and
furnishings.
Present your design
ideas to your classmates. Explain how you designed a room that is multi-functional,
both playful and restful. Describe some special features that are especially
important to you. Which of the museum rooms inspired you? What would
be your next step to make this dream room a reality?
