The idea for my sculpture came from the memory of an event in which I was 3 years old and I wanted an apple. My mom was busy and told me that I'd have to wash the apples myself. So I filled the bathroom sink with soap and water, and put the apples in. I left so that the apples could "take their bath". About a half-our later, my mom discovered the apples and laughed and showed me how really wash apples.
I enjoy making art because it allows me to express myself in new and different ways. For this particular sculpture I researched Judy Onofrio and my class learned about her work. Some of the materials I included were plastic tiles, a wax duck, a shower head, glass and wooden beads. I used Styrofoam for the skeletal structure, embedded my "jewels" with mortar, and covered them with grout. This whole process took about two months. I'm happy with the outcome of my project and I hope my mom will too.
