Artist Statement
Birthday Cake by Mako Kadir
My name is Mako Kadir. I am 15 years old. I attend Central Middle School. I have studied art at CMS for almost one year. I chose a birthday cake because when I was in my country, my Mom made me a birthday cake for my 13th birthday. That was the day I left my country so the birthday cake is a memory of my Mom.
Everything on my sculpture stands for something. The candles on the cake represent the years I’ve lived. The hardest part about making this project was to cut the shapes for the cake. One thing that I like about this sculpture is the little marbles that I put on it. |
