Nancy Ratzloff's Teacher Reflections
February 18th, 2000:

What a great day at the MIA!!! It was non-stop conversation about Ernest's work, his background, wonderful stories of his childhood, and his "take" on the creative process and how it is developed. He struck me as a very spiritual person and this was very evident in his work. I appreciated his belief in paying homage and respect to the earth and his ancestors who created the ancient rock carvings. Ernest was only going to be with us in the morning, but stayed all day. We were so excited about Carol's clay rattles we decided they had to be the production part of the art unit! We then wrote out our plan trying to structure it into around 6-7 lessons. We wanted to incorporate work with ArtsNet MN. The research of modern and ancient symbols, the creation of new symbols, the process of making the clay rattle, and the final assessment. We left the MIA that day really "pumped" about what we had accomplished that day!
