The Duluth Living Room

The Prindle family enjoyed a view of Lake Superior from their living room.

Putting a place on the map

This is the living room of the stylish new home that William and Mina Prindle had built for them in Duluth in 1905. The Prindles had moved to Duluth in the 1880s. Duluth was a small, rough frontier town then. But young William Prindle believed that the city would someday be as great as Chicago. He bought land, built houses, and traveled around telling people about the opportunities in Duluth. He became rich as Duluth quickly grew.
